Today is National Read Across America Day, or Dr. Seuss Day. I love reading and I'm happy to say that my daughter loves books too. I love science-fiction where the author not only has to weave a story line but create a whole new believable world to transport the reader into. I love inspiring books like Love Does. or even the Chicken Soup books. I love positive psychology books that inspire me to be my best.
Sometimes when I think about the person I prefer to be I feel like I fall short. (And no that wasn't a un on my height, haha!) We all have those days where we lose our temper or struggle to see the positive amidst the challenges of the day. I set the bar pretty high for myself and there are days that it is too high.
Last night as I played under the moon I had a realization. I don't need to worry about the days I fall short. Focusing on them only gives them more energy. I simply need to dust myself off and try again, living from the heart. I need to use the tools that I know help me succeed and for me play is a large part of that.
I may be in my mid-thirties (crazy, I know!) but I am a child at heart. I love play and I enjoy being silly. I still enjoy a good slide down the stairs or having a water fight. I enjoy dancing around the house and singing made up songs. I enjoy painting. And I enjoy running around at the playground.
Dr. Seuss said, " Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." Oscar Wilde said, "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." And there are a thousand more authors out there reminding us that the world needs each of us to be exactly who we are.
I'm grateful for these quotes. I'm grateful to be reminded to embrace who I am. I'm grateful to play and be silly. I'm grateful to know that even though there will be "bad" days and "good" days they all make up who I am and I get to choose how I interpret it. I'm grateful for all the amazing authors out there. I'm grateful for a day to celebrate reading. I'm grateful to be me and I'm grateful for each one of you.
How will you be "youer than you" today? What are some of your favorite quotes?
May today allow us the space to be one hundred percent ourselves. May we find love and acceptance as we shine our light upon the world. Have a beautiful day!
