It was one of many times that it occurred to me that life was better with sound effects to break up the daily norm. And as a mom I find myself doing random sound effects for simple things like going up the stairs or laying my daughter down on her play mat.
Why am I talking about sound effects? Well partly because I am deliriously tired and therefore more of my morning has required sound effects... the other part, today is National Mario Day.
It is perfect timing for this "holiday" because I really feel my day could use some jump-up-to-bust-open-a-block sound effects. I actually have a fantasy about this particular sound effect. Every time I walk through the gym and see the net hanging from the ceiling with all the exercise balls tucked in place I just want to walk underneath and do the Mario one fist up jump and watch the balls burst out. I will admit, having self-control is really hard sometimes.
Never-the-less, I'm grateful for sound effects today. I'm grateful for all the ways sound effects pop up in my day and add that little extra fun. I'm grateful for the sound effects my daughter is learning to assist her communication. I'm grateful for the fun and creative sounds that can be added to random normal tasks. I'm grateful to mix it up where upon the fourth or twelfth time of "peek-a-boo" a "snoot-a-flargen" comes out instead. I'm grateful for silliness. And I'm grateful to made it to adulthood with my playfulness still intact, even on (or perhaps especially on) little sleep.
What sound effects could spruce up your day? How can you add some playful sounds to your ordinary tasks?
May today provide comic relief. May we find time to play even within the tasks that need done. Have a beautiful day!
