Today is National Train Your Brain Day. I love this because it gives so many possibilities. What are you wanting to sharpen or give extra attention to today? How would you like to train your brain for a better life? For me, today is a great day for renewing my gratitude practice. Training my brain to focus on the positive in this moment. Today I will make a new commitment to breathing new life into my gratitude practice. For those of you who have not started one, let's start with the basics. When you wake up in the morning, write down your Grateful Four; four things you are grateful for about your life, yourself, or those around you. Spend several minutes focusing on these, perhaps even repeating them to yourself. Allow yourself to FEEL the gratitude in your heart. As you go about your day, if something happens that is frustrating of stressful, try to find the bright side of that situation. What can you be grateful for within that event? If you cannot find gratitude in it, then focus back on what you wrote that morning. Throughout your day make a conscious effort to return to gratitude, finding as many new things as possible. When you lay down at night, right before you go to sleep, write down at least one thing you are grateful for about the day. It could be something you accomplished or an exchange that happened with someone in your life. Pick something specific to that day and let that gratitude be the last thing on your mind as you go to sleep. I have been doing this practice for a while now, so to train my brain and keep my practice fresh I am going to take my morning Grateful Four a step further. Not only is it important to pick new things each day and not just get in the habit of writing the same four things, but it is also important for me to give gratitude for myself. Today I will start adding something about myself that I am grateful for to my Grateful Four. I am grateful for the soft sound of rain on my window. I am grateful for a loving boyfriend, sweet dogs, and a great family. I am grateful to sit in the quiet of morning under my sunlamp this morning. I'm grateful to have the ability to reach so many people with my blog, all around the World, as I sit at home. And I am grateful for my courage to share my story, be open and vulnerable, and share my light with others. I believe this courage and this vulnerability makes me stronger and makes me a better friend to those around me. I'm also grateful for my compassion and willingness to help others. These are important traits to me and I'm grateful to practice them each day. Thank you for joining me in this moment of gratitude and peace today. Gratitude is a great way to shift your life and begin living the life of joy you deserve. It empowers us to see how our thoughts color our world. I invite you to join me in the commitment to finding gratitude in life. I invite you to step into this moment of change and train your brain in a positive way. What are you grateful for today? May your day be blessed with finding gratitude easily and may your gratitude practice thrive in the weeks and months to come. Have a beautiful day!
