It started when I was walking my dogs. Usually our walk route takes 20 to 25 minutes. Yesterday it took us 35. Instead of prodding them along when they stopped to sniff every bush, I just waited. Next I went and taught a Stress Reduction class focused on breathing techniques and regained those deep breaths that I had been in need of myself. From then on I went through the day like I was moving in slow motion.
Today I am making the conscious choice to do that again. I am taking a time out. I am purposely moving in slow motion. I will once again connect to the soft background noises and let my thoughts take a rest. I will notice the flowers in the median that someone took the time and care to plant. I will pause to pet my dog's head as she desires. And I will move through my work day and my obligations at my speed because this life is too beautiful to rush.
I'm grateful for this reminder. I'm grateful for yesterday's lessons in re-centering and quieting my mind. And I'm grateful to start today consciously doing the same. I'm grateful for this moment of quiet. I'm grateful for the sun shining and the flowers that remain in bloom through the hotter days of summer. I'm grateful that the city employs someone to make our city beautiful and put these little bursts of color in the medians. I'm grateful to take notice.
When was the last time you gave yourself a time out? When was the last time you checked in to see what you consciously needed?
May today play out in whatever speed best suits your unique needs. May we find peace in the moment and love all around us. Have a beautiful day!
