As I look forward to how I want this day to go I have to make a choice. Am I going to continue to be reactive to each little thing that happens or am I going to focus on the rest of the moments that are smooth and ordinary? Having a good day does not have to mean something awesome happens. It does not even have to mean things all go as planned. Having a good day can be as simple as me choosing to laugh instead of grumble, to shake off what doesn't go my way, and to be grateful for the little, ordinary day to day things that continue on as normal.
I'm grateful to see my daughter's shining face. I'm grateful my daughter pooped this morning. I'm grateful my dog is being playful and romping around which means she is feeling good today. I'm grateful to have french toast pre-made from yesterday to snack on this morning. I'm grateful for a second goodbye from my husband. And I'm grateful for the return of storytime at the library today!
How will you choose to respond today? What about your regular routine brings you gratitude?
May today refresh the commitment to practice gratitude. May we take a slow breath at each thing that doesn't go our way and focus on the beauty of what goes well. Have a beautiful day!
