I love that she doesn't just scream, well sometimes she does but she tests out a variety of sounds too. This morning she was saying "buhbuh" which I translated for her to "bye bye Daddy". Mostly that is how our day goes, with her making a sound and me finding a word that is similar to repeat back to her. It gives her the biggest smile. It is important to feel like we are heard. And occasionally her babble does form a word and even applies to the context.
The other day I asked her if she wanted picked up and she yelled out, "heck yeah!" It was clear as day and fit the context so perfectly I busted out laughing. If she knows that phrase it is from a past life but it was fun to hear her talking.
I'm grateful my daughter is finding her voice. I'm grateful to give her the opportunity to use her voice and listen. I'm grateful to participate in the random conversations we have making words out of the sounds she makes. I'm grateful for this precious time that will no doubt pass too quickly. And I'm grateful for the beautiful miracle of a daughter that I get to hold, play with, and listen to each day.
What are you listening to today? What are you ignoring that may need a little more attention?
May today bless us with remembering to pause and listen. May we find connection and even humor in what we hear. Have a beautiful day!
