Last night I got to enjoy the company of family that I have not seen in close to ten years. My grandpa's sister and her charming husband were the only nearby relatives I had when I lived in Washington, what seems like a lifetime ago. I used to love going to their home and hearing about their grandkids and listening to my great uncle's war stories and high school shenanigans. He's not all too different from my grandpa in that regard, though some of his stories were much more elaborate. It was a blessing to see them last night and while we have all aged a bit, it still felt like old times. The family sitting around talking, dogs tooting and making us gag and laugh at the same time, and catching up. It was truly a moment to cherish and I am glad I made the time to go. I'm so grateful for my family. I'm grateful for the wonderful storytellers we have that keep the evening entertaining. I'm grateful to see my great aunt and uncle again and while I know the chance is slim, I hope it is not the last time our paths cross. I'm so grateful for my husband who knows my heart and drove me out to see them when I was too tired to drive myself. And I'm grateful for the joy of family and these cherished moments together. Is there someone you haven't seen in a while that you have been thinking about? Even if you can't go visit, perhaps you could give them a call. Who do you choose to spend your free time with and who fills your heart with fond memories? May today bless you with the energy to reach out to someone cherished. May you find joy in your heart at the memories of these special people. Have a beautiful day! |
