One side of my mind says, "I needed that so much! That was wonderful!" The other side says, "I am late in posting my blog and preparing breakfast for my family. My daughter will be off schedule again today."
I have the choice to listen to either of these voices. They are both accurate. Next week will send my husband back to work and my daughter back into her hectic schedule of swim lessons and school and playdates. I will be back to waking up early whether on my own or by my alarm to get everyone's schedules back on track. So this week? This week is for me.
I am going to tell the voice that says I'm late to go have some tea and I'm going to continue sleeping as long as my body needs this week. I have two more days to let my body catch up on the sleep it has missed from the last couple weeks of holiday parties and rough toddler nights.
This week I will honor my body's request and remember that this is one of the perks of vacation. I will start this year practicing self-care instead of just planning for it. And when Saturday rolls around and my alarm rings for work, I will hop out of bed happy to know that I gave myself this time to catch up on some much needed sleep.
I'm grateful to listen to my body's request. I'm grateful for the laugh I got yesterday as I ended up getting two short naps during the day just by resting my head "for a second". I'm grateful to know how important sleep is to my health but also to my parenting ability. I'm grateful to just accept my body's vacation clock knowing that it will fall back into sync in a few days. And I'm grateful my daughter and dog have been sleeping in as well to allow me this beautiful privilege. I'm grateful to extend the courtesy to my husband as well.
What is your body requesting today? Is it getting the sleep and healthy food it needs to stay strong and well? What commitment will you give your body this year in return for all it does for you?
May today remind us the importance of listening to our needs. May we find ways to meet those needs even amongst the demands of the schedules we keep. Have a beautiful day!
