In this society we use labels a lot to try to understand things. It helps us to make sense of our world and relate to others when we can identify with common labels. And yet when using labels on ourselves it is entirely subjective to how we feel, and who is giving the labels.
I have labeled today as exciting when I could have labeled it stressful as I rush to get ready. I label myself grateful, excited, and happy. On a larger note I label myself kind and strong and smart. These are all labels that apply but are not the true summation of who I am and they can change.
Now obviously I hope that the positive traits I label myself with are ones that I will make the effort to keep around but no matter what the label I have the ability to change. If I am crabby I can make the effort to become patient. If I am struggling I can make the effort to remind myself I can be strong. One of the beautiful things about being human is our ability to change and adapt and cast out old labels for new ones.
I'm grateful for this adaptability. I'm grateful for the power in knowing I have the ability, the power, to choose who I am and who I will become. I'm grateful to know that even if I can't choose some of the curveballs that life hands me, I can still choose my response. I'm grateful for being excited this morning. I'm grateful to be motivated and to have the opportunity to teach one of my favorite groups. I'm grateful for the mantra, "I've got this!." And I'm grateful for my daughter playing happily beside me.
What labels or perspective would you like to claim today? What helps remind you of your power and ability?
May today bless all of us with standing in our personal power. May we help build ourselves and others in a positive way. Have a beautiful day!
