This morning I am grateful for the subtle sounds of night. I've never been a fan of loud or high pitched noises, they hurt my ears, and yet the sound of a train in the distance or rain on the roof are some of the best noises. Last night as I slept there were so many extra sounds in the room that I feared I wouldn't be able to sleep. Instead of the steady drone of the fan running, it was set to temperature and kicked on and off all night. The sound of a humidifier, humming along. The coughs and snores of my poor fiancé who is feeling under the weather, hence the change in heat and humidity. Rain pattering outside, occasionally causing a metallic clink on something below the window. The sound of dogs stirring and getting drinks of water. There are days that this level of interruption to my sleep could make me frustrated. But as I drifted in and out of sleep last night all I felt was gratitude. I'm grateful for my loving fiancé and for the chance to be here by his side and take care of him. I'm grateful for these contraptions like a humidifier that make it easier for him to breathe. I'm grateful for a fan that can regulate it's own temperature so it will not get too hot in the bedroom. I'm grateful for two healthy dogs that are able-bodied to get up and meet their own needs. And I'm grateful to have slept fairly well even with all these distractions. These are the sounds of family life and I'm so grateful for my family. What subtle sounds made their way into your night? What are some of your favorite sounds to hear? I do love hearing the train in the distance in the wee hours of morning. I love the sound of rain. Can you find gratitude in the subtle sounds in your environment today? May your ears be a blessing today. May you find peace in the things you hear. Have a beautiful day!
