Let's face it, sometimes when the monkey-mind is chattering away a deep breath is not enough to clear it out. Sometimes that deep breath is enough to reboot and refocus but other times whatever is on the mind is persistent. But what if that deep breath caught a whiff of a favorite calming smell? That's what happened to me this morning. I would take a deep breath and calm my mind but the chatter continued, until as I stepped out of the shower I took a deep breath as I wrapped myself in a fresh, clean towel. The smell of laundry was perfect for giving me that comfort and erasing the chatter. I've noticed the same is true with essential oil warmers using lemongrass or lavender. These calming scents add the extra element needed to step away from the worry and chatter and back to that peaceful tranquility. Now I can feel the option as my mind rests to either go back into that stressful place or to remain quietly focused. I'm choosing the proactive response of doing what needs done from this quiet place. What would you choose? It seems like a silly question but there are times we all choose to go back to that stress even after we've come out of it; rehashing it to friends or coming up with new additions to the original stress. Today I choose to let it go and I'm empowered by the knowledge that I have my nose to help me. What is your mind saying today? Is it loving thoughts you choose to keep or stressful thoughts you would like to let go? What are some smells of comfort for you? May your nose be your trusty assistant and may you find peace within the scents of your life. Have a beautiful day and a beautiful weekend, everyone!
I believe the way to a better future starts with gratitude today.
