The question is simple for me. If we didn't need it for something else then I would want to take a trip. Even with a child we can travel at a pretty low cost because camping in most areas is inexpensive. And the places I prefer to go are generally not crowded cities with lots of entertainment, but rather backcountry, peaceful places I can hike or just relax.
I like space. I like wide open areas. If the commute didn't eat up paychecks and family time I would be well outside city limits for a sanctuary to call home. I would choose somewhere where I could see the stars without the street lights shining or the neighbors roof interfering.
I'm grateful for the conveniences of the city. I'm grateful to have the grocery store five minutes away and the highway so close at hand to be able to get where I need. I'm grateful for a nice home in a nice neighborhood and friendly neighbors. I'm grateful to know I can get away from it all for little vacations fairly cheaply. I'm grateful for several tents to choose from and my family's willingness to camp too. I'm grateful to know that space rejuvenates my spirit and connecting to nature is my reprieve. I'm grateful to live in a place with more space between houses and even inside houses than many places on Earth. And I'm grateful to have wide open spaces near enough to retreat to for my wellbeing.
What would you do with a couple hundred extra dollars? What is most important to you? How do you renew your spirit?
May today bless us all with the ability to dream. May we all find a way to make those dreams a reality. May we find simple ways to renew our spirit. Have a beautiful day!
