It's easy to get caught up in the day to day rush of life, especially near the holidays. And when I stop to think about what I am grateful for it is often people or something special that happened. Yet the basics often get overlooked.
So today I pause and look around me. I am grateful for this roof over my head that keeps me dry and warm. I'm grateful for windows and drapes that keep the wind out of my home. I'm grateful for the lights that allow me to wake and get ready before the sun when the winter days shorten. I'm grateful for the extras that make this house a home, like the signed guest-tree painting hanging on the wall from our wedding and the plants given to me from loved ones.
I'm grateful for running water and hot water to be more specific. I'm grateful for all the appliances that allow me to cook my food in a variety of ways. I'm grateful for a chair to sit on and a laptop to work. I'm grateful for garage door openers that let me stay in my car and push a simple button for entry. I'm grateful for the money that allows my husband and I to pay for things like electricity and surgery for our sweet dog.
There are so many things I am grateful for that I often take for granted. What are you grateful for today? What things do you use every day that you may be taking for granted? Have you ever lived without a roof over your head?
Unfortunately there are still so many people that do not have the simple blessing of a roof overhead. Is there anything you could do or give to those less fortunate to help them gain the simple blessings of a place to stay, a warm meal, or heat? There are organizations set up and waiting to provide just that, but they need help meeting the need. There are plenty of people that can truly not afford to help, but if you can it is so very appreciated.
May today bless you with these simple gifts of a roof overhead, heat to keep you warm, and food on your plate. May you be filled with love and gratitude for each of the blessings in your life. Have a beautiful day!
