Today I simply want to be present with gratitude. I want to challenge myself to see some of the blessings I have that are taken for granted each day. Today I challenge myself, and you if this speaks to you, to simply find at least twenty-five things that I am grateful for in my sight in this moment.
I am grateful for a dark, peaceful, quiet house. I am grateful for the little speck of orange light reflecting from somewhere that rests on the handrail; its contrast is beautiful. I'm grateful to have the Autumn decorations and foliage up around me and the joy it brings me this time of year. I'm grateful for the zebra stripes of light decorating the kitchen from the lights on the back deck; its playful and fun. I'm grateful to have a place to call home with a roof over my head.
I'm grateful for my comfortable seat on the sofa. I'm grateful for a big soft robe to keep me cozy and warm. I'm grateful for the pillow on my lap that makes my laptop a little more ergonomically friendly when working from the sofa. I'm grateful for my trusty laptop and it's dependability. I'm grateful for the soft click as my fingers cross the keys. I'm grateful for it being one of the only sounds in a quiet, sleeping house.
I'm grateful for the baby monitor that affords me some peace of mind as my toddler sleeps. I'm grateful for the refrigerator that keeps our food. I'm grateful for the food we are blessed to be able to afford and eat each day. I'm grateful for the conveniences of electricity. I'm grateful for all the ways it works behind the scenes to make life run smoother and easier.
I'm grateful for all the seating there is around me. I'm grateful to know there is space enough for family and friends. I'm grateful for the abundance of loving, supportive people in my life.
I'm grateful for the television that allows me some recreation as well as an option to stay in touch with world events. I'm equally grateful to not feel the need to use it every day. I'm grateful to know it is one of many forms of entertainment and to choose books or art sometimes too. I'm grateful for the Halloween owl canvas I painted at one of those wine and painting classes. I'm grateful to have it up on the wall now that October has arrived. I'm grateful to look at it and see the beauty and the flaws together, making it uniquely perfect.
I'm grateful for the other pictures that hang on the wall all year. I'm grateful for the memories they capture and share of engagements and my daughter as she has grown. I'm grateful for each of these framed glimpses in time that make my heart swell.
As I look back over my gratitude this morning, I see that it isn't as much the object around me as what they represent that makes me grateful. It is a nice feeling to look around the house and see some many blessings surrounding me even before the sun comes up and fully lights the room. I am blessed and in that gratitude abounds.
What are you grateful for today? Can you find twenty-five things that inspire your gratitude?
May today remind us of our blessings. May we find gratitude for what we have and where we are in this moment. Have a beautiful day!
