This year as I prepared to drag out the Christmas tree, my husband proposed a new tradition. Instead of putting all the ornaments on the tree and the same tree skirt (even though we have three); we could start a new tradition of themes. We thought up a handful of themes to rotate through and each year we will use our existing ornaments that fit the theme and each get to pick out a new ornament for the theme for the year.
The theme this year is Winter Wonderland. The tree has white lights and will be adorned with light blue ribbons, white, light blue, and silver balls, and ornaments that have to do with winter activities or snow. My new ornament is a beautiful pair of white ice skates. We got out daughter a sled with dogs. And my husband found a hockey skate. We also got a couple sleds for the tree to add a few more ornaments since it is the first year.
I'm grateful to have my beautiful family to create traditions. I'm grateful for my husband's creative idea to change up the tree. I'm grateful to get to choose a new ornament for myself and to help choose one that my daughter will be excited about for hers. I'm grateful for our beautiful tree that stands lighted and awaiting its full decoration this weekend. I'm grateful for traditions new and old that create beautiful memories.
What is one of your favorite childhood traditions? What is a new tradition you have created or been a part of recently?
May today allow us to feel the real spirit of this time of year. May we find joy in creating traditions of our own. Have a beautiful day!
