As I check off my goals I feel like I am moving along my path toward some finish line. But is that really the case? Life is about the journey, not the finish line. At the finish line none of the specifics will really matter.
Life is about the here and now. Yes there is a bonus in distance traveled and personal growth, at least in my eyes. The bonus comes from the way growth and change is used to help me live now.
I have a set of tattoos around my body. All are small and mostly tucked away but they make up the key words of the Serenity Prayer. The words Serenity, Courage, Wisdom, and Journey are my reminders.
Life is a train. It isn't just about the end destination. It is about which stops and direction changes we make along the way. It is about who we choose to bring along and who we choose to let depart. Distance traveled is great but in the end, which goals met or left unmet are going to matter most?
I'm grateful for my tattoos. I'm grateful for the consistent reminder. I'm grateful to let go of goals that I have not checked off but no longer serve my purpose. I'm grateful for those people that traveled along with me and helped change my direction. I'm grateful to open the doors and let the people off who were no longer headed in the same direction. I'm grateful for the distance I've traveled and the goals I have met. I'm even more grateful for the journey crossing through those stations brought me. I'm grateful for the wonderful people on the journey with me today.
What measurements do you use for your life? Has there been many turns and station changes in your journey? At the end of the line, which things will matter most to you?
May today remind us to open our doors and be open to who is coming and who needs let go. May we find love for the journey and remember, in the end, the destination won't matter so much. Have a beautiful day!
