Yesterday was Father's Day but I would like to continue the love today. Dads have a pretty tough role, often trying to balance teaching opportunities, discipline, and nurturing their children. In an ideal situation moms and dads can work together to find this balance. Other times one parent acts as both, juggling all these tasks.
I'm grateful that our society is moving away from the father as authoritarian that leaves home in the morning and returns to meat out any discipline that was needed from the day. Fathers are so much more than that and capable of teaching future generations about love, balance, and that the stereotypes of men no longer fit in our society.
I'm grateful for an amazing dad that taught me about the importance of family and putting family first while still taking care of yourself. I'm grateful for the moments of teaching and the moments of play that were so important in the balance of growing up. I'm grateful for my amazing husband who will be a great dad to our little bundle of joy. I'm grateful for all the dads that stepped up for children that were not their own but became their own. I'm grateful for all the dads that admit they cry, that change diapers, and that nurture their children's spirits. I'm grateful for the beauty I see when I watch a child gaze at their father adoringly. And I'm grateful for the beauty of a father watching his children with pride and love.
Who holds the role of dad in your life? How can you celebrate him this week?
May today remind us of all the beauty in this world. May we find love to nurture and strength to receive love in return. Have a beautiful day!
(As a sidenote: I am so grateful for these super cute cloth diapers! I can't wait to test it out on my little bundle of joy's bum!)
