Today, despite it being a new flavor and one she typically likes she still did not seem to have any interest. She walked around the kitchen smelling the air to be sure there was nothing better she may want. And eventually with enough enthusiasm, and pretending we put a few more things in it, she decided to give it a try. As you can see, she was disappointed.
As frustrating as it may be on a morning where my husband and I are rushed to get to work, I can't help but pause to see the reflection. How many times have I had a perfectly good meal in front of me but not felt like partaking. Or how many times has my day been going fine only to make an unnecessary comparison and decide someone else may have it better.
The latter I try to be away of and steer myself back to gratitude for what I have. But from my four-legged friend's view, I can see how this may be a challenge. Between the smells of coffee and hot breakfast cooking on the stove, who would want to settle with some kibble... again.
Today I will do my best, for my sake and for Austin's to recognize the beauty and blessings I have in my life.
I'm so grateful for all the warm layers of clothing I have to keep me warm in this cold front. I'm grateful to wake to my husband's smiling face and kisses as we start back to work after yesterday's fun day off. I'm grateful to get to participate in some adorable one week photos of one of my best friend's new baby. I'm grateful for a generous cousin that was willing to do this photoshoot for us. I'm grateful to be able to schedule my clients in the afternoon so that I could participate this morning. And I'm grateful to know I have a variety of food in the fridge for me to decide which leftovers to take for lunch.
I'm grateful for Austin and all the reflections and lessons she shows me. I'm grateful to do my best to keep her interest in her food. And I'm grateful to report that as I wrote this she did eat half her bowl of kibble.
What comparisons have you been making lately? What things in life do you dream were "better"? What can you do to either make that happen or find gratitude in how it is right now?
May today bless you with any insights you need to reach your goals. May you find joy and gratitude in the moment you are currently in. Have a beautiful day!
