The reception was a beautiful celebration of two very special people to us. I could not be happier for them and I look forward to seeing them grow together in love. And as an added bonus for me, I got to meet or re-meet a lot of my husband's extended family. For me, the beauty was in the little moments though. The moment of just the bride and I taking a moment to talk or having that quiet chat with his uncle and getting a little view into his life. It was in the moments of getting to spend time with my niece that I rarely get the opportunity to see and listening to her tell me stories. It was beautiful!
Yesterday, too, was filled with beautiful moments of surprises and conversations with family I don't get to see frequently enough. Sharing pregnancy stories with my cousin who is due any day now with her baby girl. And having a nice chat with my uncle's girlfriend who is sweet as can be. Getting to see aunts, cousins, and even a great aunt that I usually see once a year or less was so special to me. All the effort that my cousin went to to make it a beautiful shower and all the abundance I was blessed with for this child was beautifully overwhelming.
And in between these two, beautiful social occasions, there was a car ride with my husband. Some people dread long car rides but I usually enjoy them. This one was no exception (minus a few extra stops for my pregnancy bladder). Of all the great conversations we had, the one that I cherish most was when we just had fun viewing the clouds and sharing with each other what we saw. From a chipmunk with a bazooka trying to take down a T-rex to backpacking Jesus to couples kissing it was fun to watch the clouds shift and morph in front of us.
These moments and many others this weekend have inspired my gratitude. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to get to know more of my husband's family. I'm grateful for the variety of personalities and the great sense of humor that seems to be a staple throughout. I'm grateful to celebrate with the bride and groom, who are a wonderful couple to know.
I'm grateful for the car ride home and the chance to unwind while playing with the clouds with my husband. I'm grateful for these moments I will always cherish. I'm grateful for an amazing husband that knows how to play and use his imagination. And I'm grateful for the amazing dad that he will be.
I'm grateful for my baby shower and all the hard work my cousin went to to make it beautiful and special. I'm grateful for all the thought she put into it and for the adorable croissant sandwiches that had little eyes so they looked like little crabs. I'm grateful for all who made it and for all the great gifts we received for this child. They say it takes a village to raise a child and I'm grateful to have an amazing "village" of family around me. I'm so grateful and so blessed.
What are the moments that are special to you? What moments can you find in whatever you do today to cherish?
May today bless us all with remembering to be grateful for the moments. May we take the time to cherish what's important to us. Have a beautiful day!
