Yet it is the times I am not in the best mood that I need these practices most. The song says "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands..." What if instead I practiced "If you want to be happy clap your hands..."?
This thought occurred to me today as I sang the song to my crying one year old. It is one of her current favorites and even through her tears she could not help clapping. After a verse or two, she couldn't help smiling.
Doing the things we enjoy makes us happy. So when we are having an off day, maybe reminding each other to do what makes us happy can help turn it around. Yes, we are family but we are also a team, and at this point co-workers so we may as well help each other out.
I'm grateful for a song to cheer my daughter. I'm grateful for a way to break the fussy cycle. I'm grateful to get back on the right foot this morning. I'm grateful to see my reflection in my little one and to learn so much from our interactions. I'm grateful for this reminder to do what makes me happy. And I'm grateful to exercise my gratitude each day.
What makes you happy? How often do you do the things that make you happy?
May today be a bright spot in our week. May we find happiness in the little things and include more of those in our day. Have a beautiful day!
