Many people spend their time in the pursuit of happiness to the point where when anything makes them less than happy they feel disappointment, sadness, or even anger. But happiness is an emotion that changes from our external situation. Joy is the internal knowing that all is well. It is joy that gives us contentment and allows us to celebrate each moment, enjoying our lives and living in bliss. Joy is not shattered by the external circumstances that happen to us because it comes from within us. When I search for happiness, I often lose track of joy because I am searching externally. This search can make me forget that joy is always there for me to feel when I come back to my gratitude and my blessings. Happiness is a guidepost. Like all emotions, happiness directs us towards the people, situations, and energy that are most in sync with love and our desires. I'm grateful for happiness and for all emotions that serve to guide me. I'm grateful for the things that make me happy, such as my dogs doing something silly or a friend surprising me with a gift. An unexpected phone call from my fiancé can inspire my happiness and gratitude. These are all guideposts to show me my desires for love and interaction with my World. Joy, on the other hand, inspires a different type of gratitude. Joy is what I feel inside when I gaze into my fiancé's eyes or when I snuggle with my dogs. It is that heart overflowing feeling that comes from within that they could not change no matter what they did or did not do. It is that love that is within me whether they are present or not. It is that capability to love and to know all is perfect even when my mind wants to question and analyze. I'm beyond grateful for joy. I'm grateful to know the external world cannot take joy because it is inherently born into all of us. I'm grateful to know how to tune into my joy and rebalance in it even if the external situation does not make me happy. I'm grateful to allow myself to feel my emotions and not suppress these external guideposts. I'm grateful to celebrate happiness AND joy. I'm grateful to be guided towards my desires through happiness and I'm grateful to know that joy is there even when I make a "wrong" turn. I'm so grateful for all the amazing people in my life. I'm grateful for the friends, new and old, that take time out of their day to share a hot drink with me or a meal. I'm grateful for family that are always nearby. And I'm grateful for a fiancé that shares his own heart, happiness, and joy with me. I am very blessed! What emotions are your guideposts today? What inspires your happiness and what inspires joy? How can you recenter in joy so that happiness can be a guidepost for your desires and not the defining of your day? May your day be filled with joy. May you find happiness in the simple pleasures along the way. Have a beautiful day!
I believe the way to a better future starts with gratitude today.
