This is the time of year when I frequently hear about generators. Stores run ads letting people know there are generators for sale if they need. I hear about people losing power and being so thankful that they had a generator to use as backup. Generators provide the energy needed when the normal power source isn't working.
People are not like electronics. If our battery is running low we can't just plug in to an outlet and keep going. If something knocks out our personal power, we can't just drive to the store and replace it.
Yes food helps or perhaps caffeine if we are talking about physical boosts. It's true that a "power nap" can help give us the recharge we need. But let's take this idea deeper.
What is your generator? What do you use when you are mentally or emotionally exhausted? What practices do you use to boost your energy before it even reaches that point?
What about your personal power? Who do you give your power to and how do you bolster your own personal power?
I'm not here to give you answers. For me finding ways to laugh, doing yoga or meditation, and getting plenty of sleep are pretty key. But everyone is different. I love doing creative art things and that gives me a boost emotionally. As far as personal power, trying new things is a good way for me to bolster that and yet there are plenty of times I give my power away to fears or doubts.
What works for you? What generates joy and gratitude? What boosts your confidence? What makes you feel your best? Whatever it is I hope you can do more of it this year.
I'm grateful for generators. I'm grateful I haven't had to use one to supplement my home in many years. I'm grateful to spend some time thinking about personal power and what generates my own energy. I'm grateful to take some time today to just rest my eyes and think. I'm grateful to be getting back into a routine this week. I'm grateful for meditation mondays. I'm grateful to spend time today getting creative with my girls. I'm grateful to recognize my need for more laughter today.
May today remind us to care for ourselves. May we choose generators that support our long term goals. Have a beautiful day!
