It is no secret that since my daughter came along the dogs have had to take a backseat, both literally and figuratively. My attention is more on the eighteen month old running around, climbing, and talking than the two sweet old dogs resting on their dog beds.
Every once in a while my younger old dog will venture over and bring a toy for me to toss a few times but it rarely lasts even five minutes. The other, old dog... well it is just amazing that she is still hanging on as we thought her last days had arrived several times over the last two years. If there is not human food out then she can be found sleeping on her dog bed.
I'm grateful to have two awesome fur-babies. I'm grateful for how well my dogs adjusted to my daughter. I'm grateful for how gentle and sweet they are with my daughter. I'm grateful to try to take time each day to snuggle each of them individually and I'm grateful for national days like this that remind me to make an extra effort to show them my love. I'm grateful for another day and another week with my older dog Austin. I'm grateful that she seems to be comfortable despite nearing the end. And I'm grateful for my younger, old dog, Pippin, who still has some spunk and gives us a laugh.
Do you have pets? What is your favorite thing about your pets? How can you show them a little love today?
May today remind us to slow down and show the ones we love how much they mean to us. May we have plenty of time to snuggle our fur-babies. Have a beautiful day!
