I chose four because it makes it easy to remember when I ask myself, "what am I grateful for?" What are my Grateful Four? But four holds more significance than just gratitude reminders for me. Personally, the number four symbolizes family and love. It symbolizes community and connection. It's a knowing that I am not alone in whatever I am going through or pursuing.
My dad writes the number four as short script for the word "love" or "I love you". Growing up we would hold up four fingers at the window as we waved goodbye to him in the morning. I always tried to be up to see him off, to stand at the window and wave my four.
As my daughter grows I plan to teach her about four. I plan to teach her the three hand squeezes that my father-in-law used to say "I love you". I plan to voice my love to her as often as she needs to hear it and then some because she is so very loved.
I'm grateful for the four of my family; my husband, daughter, and two dogs. I'm grateful for the four I feel for them. I'm grateful for the love that pours through me when I think of my family and extended family. I'm grateful for the symbol of four that my dad passed down. And I'm so grateful for all my blessings and all the love that surrounds me. I'm grateful for so many ways to communicate love and gratitude.
How do you say "I love you"? What little gestures do you use to express it? What are your Grateful Four?
May today bless us with the beauty of love. May we find many ways to express that love. And may gratitude fill our hearts as we celebrate the love we were given. Have a beautiful day!
