I talk to people a lot about their dreams for the year and what they would love to see in the different aspects of their life. Often in talking about it there is a "but" that comes in at some point as the person tries in their mind to fill in the details on how this could happen. Self- doubt creeps in and steals the focus of those dreams. It is not only beginners on this oath of intentions and dreaming big that do this. Personally, I know this pattern well. Just yesterday I was asked to provide a service that I know and do well. Yet upon hearing who was the previous provider I felt that self-doubt creeping in. Could I do it as well as that other person? Was I as qualified when I had not been guiding as long? But in pausing I realized that none of these were questions that I had been asked by the person seeking me. In fact, she had sought me by recommendation. There is no way to compare if I will guide "as good as" the previous person because in truth we have very different styles, backgrounds, and strengths. It cannot be compared. The only question that remains is if my style will fit what is being sought and there is no way to tell without accepting the offer and letting her decide for herself. I'm grateful to catch the self-doubt as it creeps in. I'm grateful to know I am good at what I do and provide heart-based services. I'm grateful to know that different people do things different ways and there is not a right or wrong way as long as everyone is honored and respected. I'm grateful for the opportunities that keep presenting themselves. I'm grateful to get to practice what I coach and be honest about my human-ness. We have all felt self-doubt creep in. That is normal. Yet it doesn't have to cloud your decisions or hold you back. It can instead be turned into a strength as you learn to recognize and utilize your self-power. What self-doubts have you been having lately? Is it the result of comparison? How can you walk back towards your power today, knowing you are enough? Take a moment to sit with that doubt today and see where it is coming from. Then acknowledge your unique strengths that have gotten you this far. May you recognize your you-nique perfection. May you see the beauty in the opportunities and lessons around you.
