Happy Earth Day! Today I am grateful for this beautiful, magical planet we live on! I'm grateful for the trees that provide shade and help clean the air as well as providing a post to climb and rest. I'm grateful for the flowers of Spring that are popping up courageously in the yard. I'm grateful for the soil that nourishes and provides solid ground for living. I'm grateful for the air I breathe and the clouds that dance by overhead. It can be easy to take all this for granted in the midst of my day to day schedule but when I pause and look around and really think about how majestic and amazing this world is, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I'm grateful to do my part to keep it clean and I recognize that there is more I can be doing. When I worked with preschoolers we made a game, sort of like an Easter egg hunt, for them to find the trash and clean it up. By making it a game it was helpful and fun. What Earth Day "games" can you play today? How can you take it a step further than usual to clean up our beautiful planet? And can you take that extra step each day or each week for this entire year? Today I plan to walk the dogs at the park. I have decided one easy way that I can help our planet is that each time I walk the dogs I will pick up not just the trash that is on my way to the nearest trashcan but ALL the trash I see. After all, I am carrying mini trash bags around during these walks, right? I think I will also take the time to look into the soaps and detergents I use for my laundry and dishes and see exactly what I am adding to my environment and if I need to switch to a more Earth friendly product. I often view the labels making sure the ingredients are things I am comfortable using on myself, trying to remain as toxin/"chemical" free as possible but perhaps I take a closer look for my planet's sake too. These are a couple small things that I can do each day to show my love for our planet. I'm grateful to live here and I want to show my love and appreciation. What will
