This song is currently one of our favorites, even my 16 month old will sing it and try to get her sister and me to join. It is a GREAT song for learning and playing around with rhyming words. It is also just a great song for silliness.
I enjoyed Raffi's music as a kid and I'm grateful to get to share it with my kids now. It is fun to see which songs they like best and remember my own favorites.
Down By the Bay, in case you don't know it, goes "Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow, back to my home, I dare not go, for if I do, my mother will say have you ever seen a....." There are whales with polka-dot tails, a goose kissing a moose, and so on.
We enjoy playing where I start the line and my preschooler does her best to come up with a rhyme. Sometimes she finds real words and sometimes it is a made up word which gives us the giggles.
My point is, today is a good day. It feels so good to be silly and just dust off the weight of all the stress this year has brought. It feels good to reconnect with my inner child. It feels good to just let go and laugh.
I'm grateful for laughter and how good it feels bursting out of me. I'm grateful for the beautiful sound of my daughters' laughter. I'm grateful for Raffi and music that lasts through the generations. I'm grateful for songs that rhyme and fun ways to play and learn at the same time. I'm grateful to let loose. I'm grateful to have an outing and let go of the stress of covid, even as I know numbers are worse than ever in this area. I'm grateful to just be silly.
When was the last time you let loose and laughed or sang at the top of your lungs? When was the last time you listened to your favorite childhood songs?
May today bless us with silliness. May we reunite with our inner child and let the laughter roll. Have a beautiful day!
