Dogs are great pets because they make every day a cheer up the lonely day. They love so deeply and unconditionally. Yes, sometimes they eat the baby toys or shred the toilet paper but mostly they just create love.
My dog, Pippin, is almost twelve years old and weighs over seventy pounds. She is no tiny pup. But in her mind she is still the twenty pound, lap cuddling puppy that I brought home from the shelter.
She loves bubbles and walks and squeaking squeakers incessantly. But most of all, Pippin loves being with me. She is my cuddle pup and I love her so much!
I'm grateful she is adjusting as well as she can to being an only dog. I'm grateful for the years of love she has given me with more to come. I'm grateful for all the times she has cheered me up and made me laugh. I'm grateful for the silly shenanigans she used to do as a puppy (like flipping the light switches) and equally grateful she grew out of most of them (like unscrewing door stoppers and outlet plates). I'm grateful for her very smart nature and I'm grateful, in most cases, to be just a little smarter. I'm grateful for how patient and loving she is with my toddler. And I'm grateful for how much my toddler loves Pippin and cuddles her. I'm grateful to not be lonely and grateful to know that if I were, Pippin would come to my rescue. I'm grateful for dogs in general but even more so for mine.
Have you ever owned a dog? What pet warms your heart and reminds you you're loved?
May today remind us that companionship can come in many forms. May we celebrate our furry friends as often as our human ones. Have a beautiful day!
