As someone who has taken a lot of detours, I can honestly say that those are sometimes just as important as the path itself. In fact, I have found that sometimes those detours were necessary to learn important lessons so that when I returned to my path later I could carry that knowledge along. It has led me to make wiser decisions and I can honestly say I would not be where I am today without those detours.
If you were new to a particular town and your GPS told you to turn and go a round-about way, without you realizing there was another path straight ahead, is that a detour? As far as you would know, that is the path. Perhaps later you learn there is another, easier way and you can travel that next time but does that mean the first path was wrong? It still got you where you were going.
I'm grateful for the detours I have taken in life. I'm grateful for the ones I label as detours as well as the paths that I don't yet realize may have been detours. And I'm grateful to know all of them were my path.
I'm grateful for the lessons I have learned on those detours. I'm grateful to know that all the paths I chose, even those that appeared as a dead end, all led me to the place I am today. I'm grateful for the paths I traveled alone and those I traveled with loved ones. And I'm grateful for this woman's conversation that re-sparked my gratitude for the path I am on today.
What has been your favorite detour? Was it really a detour at all? May your day be guided by faith and may you follow the path that leads you to happiness. Have a beautiful day!
