I use coconut oil for a number of purposes. It can be used as an anti-viral, anti fungal, and antimicrobial treatment. (Though as disclaimers require, it is important to seek professional advice if you are having a serious medical issue.) Coconut oil is a powerful, and easy way that I use to "fix" small issues. So it was no surprise that it was the first thing I reached for when my dog, Austin, began losing a patch of fur to some strange sore.
While we still don't know what caused the sore initially, the itch factor seems to be a main factor in its sticking around. After just a few days of a coconut oil treatment, mixed with a drop or two of tea tree oil it is beginning to look much better. I only hope that as it heals her fur will begin to grow back as well.
I'm very grateful for all the powerful uses of coconut oil. I'm grateful for all the personal situations it has helped me in, from irritated gums to itchy belly and even delicious brownies. I'm grateful to use this knowledge to apply it to my sweet pup to help relieve her sore. I'm grateful to know that it is a safe substance to have on her so that if she licks it or if I should pet her and get it on my hand it is not full of chemicals like some topical dog treatments. I'm grateful that it smells better than some other treatments too. I'm grateful to have something so versatile in my tool box for health and happiness.
