I love warm weather. There is no question about it. But there is beauty in this time of yo-yoing temperatures. Even with freeze warnings ever few days my flowers have proven resilient. In fact, in the midst of the cold another variety of tulip has come up in my garden. And just in time for the other tulips and daffodils to complete their cycle.
So you may be thinking that this blog is about cycles or about finding beauty in the growth around us. That sounds like something I would write about, and I have on many occasions. I could even use this example to talk about strength and resilience, knowing I can "make it through" until warmth comes again. But today I just want to live in this moment... not the moment coming that will be warmer or finding something beautiful despite the cold. Today I want to appreciate the cold.
I'm grateful for the cold because it allowed me one more morning of snuggling deep under a warm comforter. I'm grateful for the cold because it gives me another opportunity to wear some of my cold weather clothes that soon I will be storing away. I'm grateful for the cold because today is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day and hot sandwiches always taste better on cold days. I'm grateful that perhaps some of the mosquito population will be tamed by these late freezes but if not I'm grateful for these freezes slowing the growth of my flowers so that they will continue to bloom through the Spring and Summer. And last but not least, I'm grateful for the energized feeling the cold gives me, it's encouragement to move around more, that helps me wake up after a night of little sleep.
What is your favorite thing about the cold? Can you find beauty in the moment you are in right now?
May today greet you wherever you are and support you in finding beauty in your current situation. Have a beautiful day!
