No matter how much I practice it, I am always impressed by the way my daughter seems to naturally grasp it. I love listening to children's perspectives on things. There is a lot less grey to sort through when it is seen from a child's perspective.
The picture above is something my daughter drew in chalk last night on our driveway. It did not matter to her that we only have yellow, white, and blue chalk left. She simply wanted to draw.
When she finished she stood back and exclaimed, "It's a rainbow! So pretty! It IS yellow! It's bright!".Her excitement transformed a few lines of chalk from a cute doodle by my toddler to a magical and beautiful image. I see it now, a beautiful rainbow!
What if I took that enthusiasm and applied it to my life. There is no lack in her statement; no excuse or disappointment in what isn't there. There is just unbridled excitement for what is present.
For the last week I have been living in anticipation of Autumn, my favorite season. What if instead I opened my eyes to the beauty that is happening before me in the slow shift from Summer?
What if I let go of my Amazon wish list and simply celebrated all of the books and things we already have? What if I donated all the things that did not give me that spark of enthusiasm?
I'm grateful to have this beautiful teacher in my life. I'm grateful to get a renewed perspective from my daughter's joyful outlook. I'm grateful for rainbows and our fun game of finding and catching rainbows as the sun hits the prism on our window. I'm grateful to see magic and beauty all around me and I'm grateful to have it taken to the next level through the eyes of a toddler. I'm grateful to open my mind to the possibilities as I explore what brings joy and what beliefs of lack hide in the corners of the mind. I'm grateful for beauty shared.
What brings you joy? What beauty can you add to your life by shifting or sharing your perspective?
May today be filtered through eyes of appreciation. May we find gratitude and beauty at each turn. Have a beautiful day!
