In most instances, the differences were not better or worse, just different. Yet it is something I take for granted when I am home for long periods of time. And there are other things I take for granted too, like having multiple bathrooms in my home.
Today I am once again grateful for the differences I notice between home and away. I'm grateful to know the people I pass as I walk down the street (or at least get to know them as we share that investment as neighbors). I'm grateful that our neighborhood chooses to have a variety of colors on our homes. I'm grateful to have running water in multiple bathrooms. And I'm grateful for this contrast to remind me to not take it for granted and to conserve both water and electricity when it is not needed.
Where have you traveled to that made you appreciate the comforts of home? When was the last time you tried to look at your home through fresh, traveler's eyes? Even a trip to a different part of town or a different city nearby can spark this feeling. May today remind you of the comforts around you. May you find gratitude for the blessings of having a place to call home.
