For those of you who read my post yesterday, the smile challenge was a wash. I kept telling myself persistence is a virtue and trying again. I must have reset thirty times. I was able to go to bed smiling but it was a long day.
Last night my dog was breathing loud as she struggles to get air. I went and sat with her several times. It is emotional to watch her passing so slow day by day and be so little I can do about it. Hopefully the ointment will help open her nasal passages soon.
I need a good day of relaxation. For me, that usually starts with no shoes. Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily want to hole up in the house. In fact, I would prefer to have my feet in the grass or maybe even dangling in a pool with this hot weather. Barefoot on my yoga mat, kicked up on the hammock, or even chasing a smaller set of pattering bare feet on the hardwood floor are all options for a good day.
There is something about the basics of no shoes that brings me back to center. And with most of the chores and all the errands done, it looks like National Go Barefoot Day may be the perfect way to spend the day.
I'm grateful to go barefoot. I'm grateful to love the feel of the grass between my toes. I'm grateful to go without shoes when the temperatures are hot. I'm grateful for my feet that navigate my day. I'm grateful to look at my calendar today and know nothing has to be done. I'm grateful for a reset from yesterday and a determination to smile and go with the flow today.
When was the last time you went barefoot? What is your favorite way to relax barefoot? If you could kick your feet up anywhere, where would you choose?
May today refresh our body, mind, and spirit. May we reconnect with the earth and free our feet from shoes, even if just for a short while. Have a beautiful day!
