On Sunday I went to lunch with my family, as is our usual Sunday routine, and while I was walking to the restroom someone stopped me to say that I was looking very nice today and she liked my dress. It was a simple complement but the randomness of the interaction gave it that much more impact. And honestly, who doesn't love a compliment?
How can we take these simple ideas and make a difference in the world? Easy, by doing exactly what that woman did. By taking a moment to be present to the people around her and go beyond politeness to actually offer love, we make a difference. Every small shift, every little difference we make ripples out to change the world.
Likewise, going barefoot seems like such a simple idea and yet it can make large ripples of its own. Connecting back to the Earth, letting our feet touch the grass and feel the many textures that it holds can bring us back to the present moment like little else. On top of that it brings awareness to where our nature connection may be lacking, or how the nature in our everyday life may be neglected. This simple act can reconnect us to Mother Nature and in turn bring small, or even large, changes in how we interact with Earth and the environment on a daily basis.
I'm so grateful to say that I've already spent some time barefoot in the grass today. I'm grateful that while I would love to have slept in, I got an early jump on the day and the connectedness to Earth. I'm grateful to have ample opportunity to say something nice to people today. And I'm grateful to commit to myself to give at least six complements today.
I'm grateful to my parents for lending me a vehicle today so that I can be at work helping those in pain. I'm grateful for the knowledge and ability to offer service. And I'm grateful for a higher power that assists me in that process of healing. I'm grateful for this day of connection and love.
How can you make a difference today? Where is the nearest green-space to you? How can you find time today to go barefoot? How many kind words can you share with strangers today?
May today bless us in our efforts to make small ripples of love. May we find connection to our community and to the Earth. Have a beautiful day!
