I know that I get easily anxious in new situations. I know that finding a balance within the obligations I choose is important and I also know I am pushing myself more today than I normally choose to in one day.
Rather than dwell in this anxiety or cocoon myself in pity or any other low feelings that may strip me of my personal power, I would like to honor this as a strength.
Yes, anxiety can be a strength. And that is how I choose to see it today.
From a psychological standpoint, it is said anxiety is good at keeping the person safe. It is an internal guide of what may be perceived as danger or harm. In my research it is also suggested that anxiety can be a great facilitator of accomplishing tasks that if left undone have a perceived consequence.
While these (and the several other psychological benefits listed) make good points, this is not where my gratitude lies in this feeling today. Today I am grateful for anxiety because it shows me my vulnerability. It shows me how far I have come that other things in my day that were once scary are now ordinary. It shows me what is important to me. And it helps me connect and identify with my clients that also have anxiety.
I'm grateful to have gotten some sleep last night. I'm grateful to have plenty of time this morning to evaluate my fears, anxiety, and day. I'm grateful to know this feeling will pass as I accomplish the tasks on my agenda today. I'm grateful to know the people in my life are supportive and loving. I'm grateful for soft and relaxing music to support me during this time. I'm grateful to be open to this vulnerability and to find blessings within this challenge. I'm grateful to push myself to keep my commitments and to know that my integrity is stronger than my anxiety. And I'm grateful to be open and share this message with each of you today in hopes those with anxiety can find a way to also find strength and love within your anxiety.
What makes you anxious? How do you calm yourself when you are feeling anxious? Is there a particular music or steps you take to return to a balanced, calm state or do you simply power through until the situation is over?
May today support your needs. May you find strength in your perceived weaknesses or vulnerabilities. And may you feel love all around you. Have a beautiful day!
