Rather than doing a flash gratitude about what's around me or a twenty things challenge I have decided to push myself with an alphabet gratitude challenge! Let's see if I can find authentic things I'm grateful for for each letter of the alphabet...
A: I'm tempted to say Authenticity but that seems to obvious. I'm grateful for Alternatives. I like being creative and coming up with alternative ideas both for activities to do with my daughter and seeking alternatives to the way I parent, learn, and even spend my free time. I'm grateful there are so many alternatives out there and resources to find them.
B: I'm grateful fro breakfast! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I enjoy coming up with new omelets to try out.
C: Not to sound stuck on a food theme but Chocolate; I'm so grateful for chocolate.
D: I'm grateful for Dogs. There is something special about the dog soul that is just healing to be around. Mine have taught me so much about unconditional love and how to provide true comfort.
E: I'm grateful for Enthusiasm. Whether it is my own enthusiasm for something I have learned or event I have coming up or whether it is witnessing the enthusiasm of my daughter just playing in the rain; it renews my soul.
F: I'm grateful for Facebook. I'm grateful that it allows me a place to share, provides a way to stay in touch with family and friends across the miles, and connects me to other moms and wives as source of brainstorming and support.
G: I'm grateful to have found Gratitude. My gratitude practice has truly been my buoy whether I'm in a place of smooth sailing or weathering a bit of a storm.
H: I'm grateful for Hugs. There is something about the reassurance and love in a full hug that helps reset my mind. Did you know that research shows we need twelve hugs a day to thrive and the full benefits of a hug are only received when the embrace lasts twenty seconds? I love that someone researched this.
I: I'm grateful for Individuality. If everyone was made from the same cookie cutter it would be a pretty boring world. I'm grateful for everyone who expresses their individuality while respecting others' individuality at the same time.
J: I'm grateful for my brother, Justin. He has been one of my biggest teachers throughout my life.
K: I'm grateful for Kindness and also for sweet, sloppy toddler Kisses. Every act of kindness moves to make the world a better place. And the genuine love shared in a kiss from my toddler just cannot be beat. It makes my heart soar.
L: I'm grateful for Laughter. Laughter is so healing and while I have not been practicing my Laughter Yoga as regularly as I would like; I'm grateful to find plenty of opportunities to laugh with my daughter.
M: I'm grateful for Me. I was created for a reason so no matter my strengths or flaws I'm grateful for me, who I was in the past, how I am in this moment, and who I will grow to be. I'm grateful for Motherhood too. It is the hardest and most rewarding job I have ever taken on.
N: I'm grateful for the new Night-lights we installed in our hallway. It is built into the outlet but allows the use of two outlets still. This may seem simple but not having a plug-in that my daughter can mess with and still being able to have the hallway lighted so I don't stumble when I come downstairs to blog at four in the morning is quite nice.
O: I'm grateful for Organization. I'm not the most organized person. I'm definitely not the type A where everything needs to be in a certain place. But I definitely feel better when the clutter is cleared and my life and home have some organization.
P: I'm grateful for Potty-Training. I had to pause a moment and decide if this was authentic. In truth I have hated the bumpy road of potty training my daughter. But it has taught me a lot about myself and been a huge motivator to improve myself and my parenting skills. So I'm grateful for the growth it has given me as a parent and I'm grateful to feel like we are (maybe) almost there with my daughter.
Q: I'm grateful for Quest that provides a stable job and income for my husband and family. I'm also grateful for Questions that make me truly think.
R: I'm grateful for Rainbows. There is just something healing and comforting about a rainbow after a storm.
S: I'm grateful for Smiles. It is nice to know that I can possibly impact a strangers day with just a smile. I know I appreciate receiving a kind smile as I move about my day. I'm also grateful for all the Symbolism that speaks to me through nature. It is nice to feel supported and gain insights through symbolism.
T: I'm grateful for Time and Time-outs in particular. It seems time is moving pretty fast these days and nothing triggers me more than feeling late. It is nice to remind myself I have time and take a time-out to relax when needed.
U: I'm grateful for Umbrellas. Having lived in Washington state for several years I don't tend to use them myself but my daughter was ecstatic yesterday that it was raining and I let her carry an umbrella and be "so big". And nothing ignites my gratitude and warms my heart like seeing simple yet abundant joy on my daughter's face.
V: I'm grateful for Vulnerability. I think we allow deeper connections with the ones we love when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and authentic.
W: I'm grateful for Wonder-Lust. I'm grateful to look out at a sunset and be filled with wonder and awe and I'm grateful to see the same awe in my daughter.
X: This is getting a little trickier...let me think. I'm grateful for "X marks the Spot". I'm grateful for treasure but also to know that treasures can be found anywhere we choose to seek them.
Y: I'm grateful to Yawn and feel sleepiness coming again after being up for the last two hours of the night. I'm grateful to still have a little time to get more sleep before my family wakes.
Z: I'm grateful for the beauty of Zzzz's that I sometimes take for granted. I'm grateful to get as much sleep as my body and mind will allow before this new baby arrives.
Thanks for joining me on my Alphabet Gratitude Challenge. I invite you to take time to try thinking of your own list of gratitude today as well. What are you grateful for? And what are some words that start with X, Y, and Z that inspire your gratitude?
May today give us the courage to accept a challenge. May we relish in our successes and find peace in any shortfalls. Have a beautiful day!
