Answering this question has become a conscious project of mine. As part of my quest to be more conscious of what I say, this question has become my special project. Yes, fundamentally I believe we are always ok. Challenges come and go but at the core we are alright. And there are times when a stranger or acquaintance asks that I will choose to not delve into the deeper answers of how I am. But even then there are alternatives to respond with, my favorites being "grateful" or "blessed".
Yesterday I tried to go a step further, open honesty. I was sitting with a woman, over tea, that I have met only once before. I paused and asked myself, honestly, how I was feeling. Instead of giving the standard response or even my re-programed response I said, "I am feeling uncomfortable today but that is ok with me." It started a great conversation on being with our emotions during change and being able to acknowledge those with the people in our lives.
In general, people are a very supportive and loving group. We have an innate need to help others. It gives us purpose and belonging. So why do we brush over a true response to this simple question? Do we believe others don't want to hear? And if that is the case, perhaps they will explore an alternative greeting.
I'm grateful for the expansion that conscious speaking is giving me. I'm grateful to acknowledge it is still very much a practice. I'm grateful to have opened to an honest answer yesterday and I'm grateful to have been well received within that space. I'm so grateful for the amazing conversation and connection it opened up. And I'm grateful to share it with you. I'm grateful to shed a little light on this subject that is important to me while releasing any attachment of the path others choose to take.
Today I ask you one simple question and I would love to hear your answer. How are you?
May today bless you with the support you need for whatever you may be feeling. May you find peace in the language you choose to use. Have a beautiful day!
