Relationships are complicated. Yet somehow death simplifies those connections. Death grants forgiveness, heals wounds, and embraces true and unconditional love... if we open our hearts to it.
It is our choice what we carry through this world. It is our choice which baggage we choose to tote along with us and which is best left at the curb. In life we sometimes forget just how much choice we have, not only in ourselves but in our acceptance of others.
Our loved ones don't always make the choices that we wold choose for them. They may be on a completely different path all together. But love can grow deeper when judgment is put aside. And when the end comes, only the love will matter.
I'm grateful to be part of a large family. I'm grateful for the ability to observe many different kinds of lifestyles. I'm grateful for love and forgiveness, both given and received. I'm grateful for the good memories I have and to release all the complication around the rest as I prepare to say goodbye to a loved one today. I'm grateful for the ability to attend the service and say my goodbyes. I'm grateful for the last memory that will forever be my favorite memory of my uncle. And I'm grateful to remember that love is stronger than everything else.
What relationships do you find challenging? How do you practice love? What baggage do you choose to leave at the curb before your time is up?
May today grant us a chance to reevaluate our perspective. May we let go of any old baggage and start with a fresh slate. May we make choices based in love. Have a beautiful day!
